Given that piano playing is largely a solitary endeavor, the musical and social rewards of playing in a piano ensemble are immensely rewarding. Continuity of musical line, keeping steady rythmn, and reading ahead are three skills developed in this process.  Ensemble players also enhance their listening skills becoming  aptly aware of balance, phrasing, articulation, and pedaling.  As the music becomes more advanced, so does the need to create a piano “orchestra” with shifting lines, voices and textures among and between the ensemble players.    One becomes increasingly aware of the give and take in phrasing and rubato to create a world of cohesive and expressive playing.

Playing in a chamber group is one of the best ways to take a student’s musical study to the next level. The chamber experience tends to motivate and inspire students to practice more, and the additional  instructional time and experience expands on the private lesson curriculum in many positive ways. Learning and performing chamber music builds confidence, teamwork, and leadership abilities while developing every essential musical skill: sense of pitch, rhythm, and tone. These skills will cross over to a student’s solo performances, making them a much better musician overall. For the student pianist, chamber music allows them to enrich their understanding of instrumental tone color and texture, and introduces them to the extraordinary and rich repertoire of chamber music.

Individual lessons are offered by age- 5yo to adult - and playing level - beginner to advanced. Overall outcomes follow a comprehensive approach to learning, and are rooted in a foundational understanding of : sight-reading, technique, repertoire development, and compositional form and structure. Students are introduced to the major classical style periods - Baroque, Classical, Romantic, 20th/21st Century, and their body of repertoire is built on pieces of increased complexity.  These four knowledge "pillars" work together to build both the student's understanding of music and their playing ability. Concurrent to these skills, students are trained to develop self-discipline, fortitude, long-range goal-setting, creativity & artistic expression, and self-confidence.
